We finished the pipes few days ago and I'm now onto editing, shaping and shading crystals. Time gets really short now, so I have to be finished till end of this weekend. While Guido is heave(n)ly keying the last shots, I did variuos tests in different directions, cause I'm not quite sure about the space qualities of crystal-city. about rats in the dark and russian cooling systems

hi there,
we've been hiding in our cave while the weather is screaming hot and humid. honking cars passing by loaded with screaming people waving the german "tri/color"(flag). those little things remember us of the life and fun "out there" :) you can probably catch a glimpse of us if you are looking reeaally close. friends of ours gave us some machines as render slaves. thanks a lot juli and micha. at peak times we have 6 machines rendering 24/7. pipe city is growing fast...it has to..since we have just 20 days left till the final presentation..THE HORRORS!!! due to the risen numbers of machines the room get's freckin' hot. please let us know if you're in for a visit 'cause we have to put our cloth back on...just kidding. my machine ran quite hot, so i decided to do the russian-mac-gyver-for-the-poor stylee and cool it down with some fans we borrowed. it works really well the temp of the harddrives went down at least 10 degrees. ![]() wolltoffsches-cooling-system. alright i'm gonna hit the sack. just one more thing...a glimpse on a final comp of pipe city..yay. ![]() have a good night everybody out there ... link (0 comments) ... comment Monday, 19. Everything in it's right place

The pipes and cameras are mainly in place now (even the moving ones do work well! :), so it's now up to finetune everything. I even shaded most of the pipes yet, to get some variation.
Finetuning means now to get through every shot, and adjusting placement and final look. As always this takes the most amount of time... We have a whole lot of it, and its getting more and more...
Uploaded some images of the sewer structure (which are three strucural elements, that are duplicated), and some house-pipes (which are also three different types). ![]() ![]() Next thing will be to get all the cameras and compositions right and then it's about to shade it. The pipes are growing

Right! Pipe city is is getting bigger and bigger...
I seperated it in different layers: there's a main pipe structure for the sewers; on top of that there will be standing the house pipes, including sewer, water and air pipes; moreover there is a foreground layer with hires objects and a background layer with more but lighter objects. First days of pipe city

So pipe city is growing....
What is more challenging than before is to get the pipe structures work in a logical and aesthetical way. As mentioned before they spread in treelike structures and I think of it as 3dimensional, walkable fractal structures. Yet theres still a standerd material al over, but the look will definitly get cleaner than wind city. The last frames of wincity are currently rendering (this time for real!(?)).

So its goes on.
After finalising a tight cut for pipe city, I'm just adjusting the cameras for it. Hopely it works and won't be as difficult as wind city. We learnt a lot already and the workflow should be fluid now... Let's see... ![]() ... link (0 comments) ... comment ... older stories
